All people are born with rights and freedoms.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is in force around the world. It is designed to protect the lives and dignity of children (defined as those under age 18).
The Convention on the Rights of the child tries to make sure that children and youth live in conditions that help them grow up happy and healthy. It states that all children and youth have the right:
-
to be protected from all forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation
-
to receive help and treatment when they are abused, neglected or exploited
-
to be heard and to have their needs met.
