October 2021 Environment, Indigenous Issues and IHL in the Classroom

This webinar, designed for high school teachers, will focus on the issues surrounding the Environment and Indigenous communities as it pertains to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in situations of armed conflict. The webinar will profile how teachers can integrate the subject matter into the classroom using resources such as Forced to FightExploring Humanitarian Law Toolkit and the Canada & Conflict Resource.

Join us as we launch a new component to the interactive online resource for teachers and students, Forced to Fight. Often in armed conflict, the environment is exposed to unsustainable exploitation of natural resources, and essential infrastructure is eroded, placing additional stress on the environment. This new scenario profiles IHL through the eyes of 18-year-old Miguel who faces the dilemmas of fighting to protect his Indigenous community in South America from the environmental and human indignities of war.

Please join us for this special webinar featuring subject matter experts as we examine international armed conflict through the lens of IHL and the Environment.
