Refugee Arrival: A letter that warmed the hearts of Red Cross volunteers

Louise-Julie, a volunteer for nearly 25 years, once again stepped in to support the Red Cross during the Syrian Refugee Arrival response. Louise-Julie spent the holidays with the big Red Cross family. She is there at the Welcome Centre nearly every day, where thousands of refugees have been arriving since mid-December.

From refugee to Red Cross employee, in less than ten days

A few years ago, Mohamad left his home in Syria and settled in Egypt, as a refugee. On December 9, he landed in Montreal and became a permanent resident of Canada. He was welcomed by a group who sponsored him, one of the members being Danielle Leblanc, a past employee and international delegate with the Canadian Red Cross.

End of mission is a time of deep reflection and slow adjustment. When I was deployed to Germany as a Canadian Red Cross delegate, my life changed drastically. Working as an interpreter in a German Red Cross transit camp for refugees, I experienced a complete shift in lifestyle.
