The
Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.
JORDAN: As the
conflict in Syria approaches its third year, many bordering
countries are struggling to cope with the number of refugees being displaced by the violence. With support from several National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the Jordan Red Crescent Society continues to support Syrian refugees through activities such as psychosocial support, relief and health services. In such a complicated situation, the role of Red Crescent volunteers is essential. They respond to the needs of Syrian refugees and at the same time play a role with the host families, helping to maintain stability within the communities, especially during times of tension.
CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC: Sporadic clashes are rocking a number of neighbourhoods in the Central African capital, Bangui. As the
security situation deteriorates, the toll being taken on the civilian population is growing heavier. The dangers involved in moving about the city may soon oblige restrictions to be placed on humanitarian action. The ICRC is continuing to work closely with the Central African Red Cross Society to come to the aid of the people affected and to take the wounded to hospital.
