Photo of the Day: Disaster dining at Walmart

Disaster Dining

Pictured here, a group chefs contemplate the culinary creations they are about to prepare as part of the Canadian Red Cross' Disaster Dining Challenge. This Disaster Dining event hosted at a Walmart in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland kicked off the annual Canadian Red Cross fundraising campaign in partnership with Walmart Canada, the leading corporate supporter of the Canadian Red Cross. The competing chefs are challenged to create a dish in under 30 minutes using only non-perishable food items that might be found in your emergency preparedness kit. The dish must be prepared without electricity as a fun simulation of what dining in a disaster could be like.

The annual fundraising campaign runs from August 1 to August 25 in Walmart stores across Canada and is expected to raise millions of dollars to support Canadian Red Cross programs. During the campaign, Walmart customers are invited to make a $1 donation to the Canadian Red Cross at the checkout.
