Photo of the Day: Dedicated volunteer rewarded

April 21-27 is National Volunteer Week. We’re sharing stories from our volunteers across the country.

For the past 14 years, Édouard Viau has been known and much appreciated around the Red Cross as a dedicated volunteer and a bit of a jack of all trades. Recently, he received an award from the Fondation Desjardins for his volunteer engagement in his community in Quebec.

A mechanic by trade, Édouard’s work as a volunteer is quite varied: he’s a member of the logistics team, helps manage a fleet of vehicles, has responded to large and small scale disasters, helps around the office and participates in fundraising activities.

His most memorable experiences as a Red Cross volunteer? Assisting people who lost everything as a result of house fires during the holidays, and he won’t ever forget welcoming home Canadians who were evacuated from Lebanon in 2006 and who arrived at the airport in Dorval after spending several days on a ship and a long flight.

Thank you, Édouard, for everything you do!
