Never too late to learn how to swim

When NBA player Brandon Bass (yes, that’s really his name) made headlines recently, it wasn’t for his skills on the basketball court but for his admission that he lacked one important skill: swimming. He didn’t learn this in his childhood but he's determined to conquer his fear.

Proving that it’s possible to learn how to swim at any age, Brandon has taken to the pool and is also spreading awareness about drowning prevention. He tweeted about his swim lesson experience and received encouragement from professional basketball players and many others. More on the response he's received here.

Check out this video of the 6-foot-8 player as he learns about water safety, basic strokes, how to float and to tread water with a group of kids from Boston.

Brandon’s motivation: his young son is learning to swim, and the memory of a neighbour who died from drowning when he was a child.
