This past week recording artist Tom Jackson hosted a benefit concert in support of Red Cross response operations in Slave Lake. Within only 24 hours of the concert organizers announced they had already raised over $125,000!

Red Cross staff and volunteers in attendance said there was an incredible feeling of unity in the sold-out crowd of 1,800 as performers including country artists George Canyon, Johnny Reid, Emerson Drive and others donated their vocal talents in an effort to raise funds.

Noticeably absent from the performance was George Canyon’s signature hat.  Although he usually tips his hat to his audiences, he expressed that in this case, his hat was off to the people of Slave Lake. Despite the event being rooted in tragedy, the outpouring of support and enthusiasm from both the performers and the audience gave Slave Lake residents in attendance a reason to smile.
