Survey finds Atlantic Canadians confident about their disaster preparedness

If a disaster struck in your community right now, do you think you would be prepared for it?

According to a new online survey, Atlantic Canadians think they would be.  The Ontario Science Centre recently asked Canadians on their views about natural disasters and their preparedness.  Out of the Atlantic Canadians surveyed, 84 per cent felt they would know what supplies their household would need when faced with an emergency and three days without electricity.

This number is very different compared to the overall national figure  that found one out of every three Canadians claim to know what supplies they need in their households.

The survey also found that 76 per cent of Canadians believe that natural disasters are occurring more frequently, and because of climate change, there will be more occurrences of big disasters in the future. The Ontario Science Centre completed the survey in time for their new exhibition Nature Unleashed, which takes a closer look at disasters around the world and how we can prepare.
