Say “hello” to a special guest – Wendy Harman from American Red Cross

Once in awhile, we are fortunate enough to have visitors from our sister Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world. It is a great opportunity to learn from each other, share a few ideas and stories, and have some Red Cross shop talk.

This week, Wendy Harman, Social Media Manager at the American Red Cross, will be sharing her social media expertise with the Canadian Red Cross. She’s also a key speaker for an event during Toronto Social Media Week.

If you haven’t heard about Wendy before, she is the social media guru at the American Red Cross who showed President Barack Obama how to tweet for the first time. Also, under her guidance, the American Red Cross raised $32 million through text messaging, in a mere few days following the Haiti earthquake. In 2010, she was named one of the top 50 influencers in non-profit. These are just a couple of her accomplishments since she started working for the American Red Cross in 2006.

On top of this, her love and devotion for social media has been a muse for her paintings, which combine bright colours and catchy tweets.  Check some of them out in the gallery below.

As it’s Wendy’s first time visiting Canada, we’re ready to give her a real Canadian welcome complete with a trip to Timmy’s and a Canadian Red Cross toque. Welcome to Canada Wendy!
