Sudbury volunteer receives a special award from the Province

Volunteer Ted Giannini proudly holding his award with Sudbury District Branch Manager Louise Trudel.

If you head by the Sudbury branch some time soon, you may see a fancy new volunteer award being displayed. The award is for Ted Giannini, for his 11-years of volunteer service with the Canadian Red Cross.

Last  week, Ted was recognized with an Ontario Senior Achievement Award for Community Service/Volunteerism at Queen’s Park. The award, granted up to 20 Ontarians each year, recognizes and honours outstanding seniors  who have made significant contributions to their communities.

Ted is actively involved with disaster management responding fires and floods in the Sudbury area, and also provided support during the Kashechewan evacuations, Hurricane Ivan (2004), Hurricane Katrina (2005), and the BC floods in 2007. On top of that, he also sits on the branch council, Northern Regional Council, and represents Northern Ontario on the provincial Disaster Management Advisory Committee.  He is quite the busy man!
