Take a stand against bullying with Pink Day

As one of the most active charity organizations in Canada, the Canadian Red Cross takes a stand against harmful issues like bullying in a variety of ways. On September 12, 2013, one of the Canadian Red Cross' national training partners - Up-standers.com - will launch Pink Day.

As part of a violence and abuse prevention education strategy, this event can help enhance Canadians' awareness of the effects of bullying and allow them to make changes in their own behaviours and in the environments where they learn, work or play.

What is Pink Day?
Pink Day is a time in Canada for wearing pink or using the color in an open way to demonstrate the kind of impact that bullying can have on people who are targeted by those who bully. Observance of Pink Day varies across the country, but the idea behind this concept is consistent across Canada.

Paul Kells, the founder of Up-Standers, is also the co-founder of Pink Day along with Travis Price, who is the co-founder of Pink Shirt Day at his school.

Both individuals are committed to reducing the occurrence of bullying. In addition, events held earlier in 2013 in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Alberta have embraced the power of pink as a color symbolic of reducing bullying around the country.

Make a difference
When it comes to bullying, the Canadian Red Cross has worked to put an end to this problem and help people who are affected by it gain the much-needed resources to overcome not only isolated incidents involving bullying, but also the long-term psychological consequences of the act.

In addition to the Canadian Red Cross' efforts to put an end to bullying, the National Society has endeavoured to empower men, women and children who are affected by hardship with the skills and confidence needed to meet any adversity.

From disaster preparedness programs to courses focused on water safety, first aid and CPR, and other relevant topics, the Canadian Red Cross delivers assistance to those in need who have been impacted by incidents beyond their control.
