In the African nation of Senegal, drought caused food insecurity which affected millions, including 43-year-old mother of twelve, Khoudga Fall. The drought left Khoudga without adequate food to feed her family and without money to pay for other expenses such as health and schools fees.

To help meet the needs of people like Khoudga, the Red Cross responded when people were most in need of help, supporting 499,000 people with food, animal feed and cash distributions. In addition, the Red Cross provided emergency assistance, livelihood protection, recovery activities and the distribution of improved seeds.

“The Red Cross is the only organization that we have seen in the community. I don’t know what I would have done if they didn’t show up. This assistance permitted me to feed my family – it is because of them that we no longer have to worry about how we are going to eat,” says Khoudga.
