Public Health Lead

We're after Public Health Leads able to travel on short notice to other destinations within the province and potentially across Canada for periods of several weeks and YOU could be one of our future heroes!

Your knowledge in  Infection Prevention and Control  /  Personal Protection Equipment and your ability to adapt to changing circumstances  will help us move through all phases of the emergency response : preparedness (support to Global Health Unit), containment and mitigation, all three requiring a different level of physical and psychological effort. 

Under the direction of the Team Leader, you will manage a team of  Public Health Advisors and  work with other Canadian Red Cross Partners, emergency responders, local health authorities and affected communities in Canada. In an ever changing, fast-paced environment and pandemic context you will provide technical advisory directions on Epidemic Prevention and Control (EPC) through IPC measures and protocols, targeting a safe healthcare environment.

In this role you will (among other duties):

  • Lead the Public Health / IPC assessment, design and implementation of CRC operations (e.g. related to testing, vaccination, contact-tracing, emergency clinic, hospital, quarantine / isolation sites...)
  • Conduct (on-site or virtual) EPC rapid assessment of facilities based on partner’s EPC needs and report conclusions. 
  • Analyze information and processes and develop efficient EPC strategies for the site(s) or with the team(s) under your purview, while respecting CRC protocols
  • Lead the public health advisors in implementation of agreed EPC recommendations
  • Support the overall strategy for the design of zones (red, yellow, green) and donning and doffing stations, among other design support, from planning through implementation
  • Conduct EPC Trainings-of-trainers and/ or prevention workshops to build local capacity
  • Monitor/ reinforcement and compliance of IPC measures/ protocols and PPE
  • Develop mechanisms to share evidence-based epidemic/ pandemic resources to operations team and support operations to ensure overall health and safety of clients and staff, partners and community members, as required
  • Lead the public health team to carry out timely, quality written and verbal reporting as required by operations, technical teams and health actors.
  • Lead the public health team to participate in Daily Case / Contact Tracing teams: provide all specified activities identified for daily case and/or contact tracing 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the internal ( CRC operations) and external teams ( Global Health Unit,  health authorities and others). ​
  • Lead, supervise, coaches and trains  Public Health / EPC team.
  • Escalate technical issues to CRC Health technical line manager or health authorities for decision or follow-up

 

​ We’re looking for:

  • Degree in one of the following areas: medicine (MD), nursing, public health, paramedic, or IPC is required (the region or country of license is not an issue as there is no clinical role)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public health, clinical health and/or epidemic pandemic management is required
  • Previous deployment in CRC and/or e xperience in health needs assessment, design of health programming is an asset
  • Experience living or working in a cultural context other than their own and/or in remote and isolated communities in Canada is an asset
  • A valid provincial driver’s licence and a successful Canadian criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening is required
  • A successful medical  check
