The Canadian Red Cross is supporting Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities that are facing extreme circumstances during the current COVID-19 pandemic. We have implemented a collaborative approach to provide immediate and scalable support to LTC facilities and their residents.

As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will be an important member of the CRC response team and report to the Site Manager. You will provide Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) support to CRC personnel and help ensure the health and safety of the CRC team in supporting long-term care (LTC) facilities operations.

In this role you will:                                                                                                             

  • Provide Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)/Health briefing to CRC personnel on site;
  • Provide training on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for CRC staff on site;
  • Organize refresher briefing and trainings;
  • Provide daily technical update, check, briefing, debriefing with the CRC team;
  • Support staff who get ill (non-medical support) and coordinate with People Service/staff health;
  • Reinforce IPC protocols compliance: monitoring the green/yellow/red zones, monitoring the use of IPC protocols and PPE, flag issues related to PPE / IPC to CRC Site Lead;
  • Ensure team members are completing the daily IPC logbook, provide a daily summary from the IPC logbook to the CRC Site Manager;
  • Support for reporting incidents or breaches for any IPC or health related issues;
  • Provide technical health coordination and follow-up with LTC facility and other health agencies on SOPs, IPC, PPE, Health and Safety, referral when needed;
  • Provide recommendation to update of CRC IPC protocols to ensure continued compliance when needed;
  • Support CRC service design from public health and safety point of view;
  • Provide support for developing/amending guidance and health related protocols as needed;
  • Documentation of key lessons learned;
  • Provide extra support to CRC EPC site team and other teams who might need help;
  • Other tasks as agreed with the technical and managerial lines of management that might include supporting to other CRC provincial operations.

We’re looking for:

  • Health degree (bachelor or master) in at least one of the following areas: medicine, nursing, public health, paramedic or IPC is required (the region or country of license is not an issue as there is no clinical role) or similar education
  • Experience in clinical health, public health and/or epidemic pandemic management
  • Experience in IPC / PPE training and supervision is an asset
  • Able to coordinate with authorities and foster effective working relationships with health stakeholders at various levels
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment
  • Competent in communicative, analytic and organizational skills
  • Strong team work as well as communication, and with strong time management skills
  • Resilience and adaptability to changing circumstances and an evolving environment
