Stephane Michaud is the Vice President for International Operations of the Canadian Red Cross. Stephane is a humanitarian response professional and engineer with 15 years of management experience in a wide range of conflict and natural crisis contexts.
Stephane started his career as an engineering officer in 1996 and served in support to peace building operations, as a member of Canada’s Disaster Assistance Response Team as well as in various engineering, disaster response and management roles in Canada, Bosnia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Haiti. Following a specialization in disaster management, project management and international development, Stephane joined the Canadian Red Cross as an international aid worker in 2010 and has since filled management roles for both the Canadian Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Those included head of the Canadian Red Cross mission in Haiti, IFRC Operations Manager in Mali as well as other assignments in Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Jordan, Afghanistan, DPRK, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and other locations. In Canada, Stephane was employed as the Director of the International Emergencies and Recovery team prior to his current role.
Stephane holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, a Master’s Certification in Project Management, a Master’s Degree in Regional Development as well as a number of qualifications from the UN and other agencies. Stephane is a licensed professional engineer and a member of various Red Cross Movement international disaster management and coordination forums.   He is fluent in English and French and a regular guest lecturer for graduate disaster management programs.
