Gavin Giles, Past Chair

Gavin Giles headshot Gavin Giles, Q.C., is the Past Chair. He lives in Halifax and is a senior litigation partner with the law firm McInnes Cooper. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary's University and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2004.

Gavin was first elected to the Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors in 2010. He has chaired the Governance and Talent Management committee and been a member of the Pension Committee. He is a member of the Nomination Committee.
 
Before beginning his board work, Gavin was a senior Canadian Red Cross volunteer for more than a decade. He served on both the Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Councils and Chaired the Atlantic Council for two terms. He has also served as a member of the Canadian Red Cross (Atlantic) Capital Campaign Cabinet, several task forces on issues such as health care and by-law amendments and has chaired two Red Cross Humanitarian Award dinners. Gavin has been active in the governance of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society as an elected three-term member of its Governing Council and as a very active fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis cause through the annual Nova Scotia MS Bike Tours.
