Christine Hanson has achieved success over the past two decades in a wide range of public service roles in both Canada and abroad as an international lawyer and diplomat. After many years of living and working in Ottawa, New York and Washington DC with Global Affairs Canada, Christine returned to her home province to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. In this capacity, Christine also served as Chair of the Canadian Association of Statutory Human Rights Agencies. More recently, she served as Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer, of the Mass Casualty Commission, an independent joint federal/provincial government public inquiry into the April 2020 Nova Scotia mass casualty.

She completed a graduate degree in international law from Georgetown University in Washington. She also earned degrees in law, public administration, and political science from Dalhousie University in Halifax. Christine was an International Women’s Forum Global Leadership Foundation Fellow at Harvard Business School and INSEAD.

Christine has served on the Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors since 2020 . She is presently Chair of the Human Resources Committee, which she has been a part of since first being elected to the Board.

She is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
