The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has issued an urgent international appeal for $8.2 million as China faces some of the worst flooding to hit the country in the last 10 years.

Heavy rains, swelling rivers and soaring temperatures continue to threaten some of the poorest areas of central and southern China, where residents have been battered by severe floods since late May. To date, flooding has affected over 200 million people, leaving nearly five million displaced and 500 dead.
