Red Cross provides relief - and lasting memories - for woman in Alberta

The Canadian Red Cross - one of the most active non-profit organizations in Canada - has been committed to helping those affected by flooding in Alberta in a variety of ways.

From providing food, water and shelter to those in need to organizing large-scale relief efforts including addressing the transportation, medical and occupational needs of Canadians impacted by the disaster, the Canadian Red Cross' impact on the ground has been considerable.

"History shows the road to recovery can be very long and for some, it could take years," said John Byrne, Canadian Red Cross Director General for Disaster Management. "Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we'll continue providing assistance in the weeks, months and years to come as individuals, families and communities rebuild their lives from this flooding."

To learn more about how the Canadian Red Cross' work has affected the lives of individual Canadians, consider Natalia Parshutkina's story.

Natalia's story
Natalia was residing in an East Village apartment before the disaster struck, but for six days she was evacuated due to the flooding. Left without a place to stay, she relied on the Canadian Red Cross for assistance.

While at a shelter run by the Red Cross, Natalia received meals, hygiene kits, cleaning kits and also clothing. When it was time to return to the East Village apartment - which was located on the ninth floor of the building - Natalia arrived with cleaning supplies, including a mop and other products.

"I will keep this for the rest of my life," said Natalia, referring to the bedding which she received at the Red Cross shelter.
