June 15, 2013 - Today, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of Canada’s strategic partnership with the Canadian Red Cross Society, Lois Brown, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation, on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of International Cooperation, announced support to the Canadian Red Cross Society for two initiatives that will help strengthen Canada’s emergency response, as well as provide essential health services to vulnerable communities following humanitarian crises.

June 13, 2013 - A new partnership between Canadian Red Cross and interRAI will bring together interRAI’s expertise in health assessments and the experience of Canadian Red Cross in disaster response and community health services to ensure the most vulnerable Canadians receive the right help quickly in times of emergency.

June 06, 2013 - Although child drowning rates are decreasing, it remains the second leading cause of preventable death for children younger than 10. Recent Red Cross research shows that Canadian parents need to develop a better understanding of how to safeguard children in, on and around the water. With June 1 to 8 being Water Safety Week, the Red Cross is calling on all Canadians to educate themselves and their children about the risk of drowning.

June 03, 2013 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced support for the Canadian Red Cross for the continuation of its Stand Up to Bullying and Discrimination in Canadian Communities project. Minister Moore was joined by Mrs. Laureen Harper and Kanata South City of Ottawa Councillor Allan Hubley.

According to recent polling by the Canadian Red Cross, nearly one in ten Canadians have been subject to an evacuation order due to a disaster. Disasters can strike at any time, without warning. This week is Emergency Preparedness week, an annual awareness campaign to encourage Canadians to be better prepared to deal with disasters and emergencies.

The Red Cross is proud and grateful to announce that its 2013 gala event raised a total of $900,000, which will go towards emergency assistance for the people of Quebec. The result was announced yesterday by Ms. Michèle Dionne, Honorary Chair of the gala event and Red Cross volunteer, before a gathering of guests made up of senior officers and representatives from the business community.
