Who We Need

We hire professionals that are recruited on an anticipatory basis to deploy when needed for humanitarian short term international missions.

The constantly evolving programs and services that we provide require team members with a wide range of strengths and skills, including:

  • Healthcare professionals
  • Capacity builders/organizational development specialists
  • Project managers
  • Water/sanitation engineers
  • Financial specialists
  • Administration support
  • Logistics experts
  • Communications officers
Missions are typically of one of those formats:
  • Join an ERU (Emergency Response Unit) register – 4 to 6 weeks deployment
  • Join a Rapid Response Register – 1 month to 3 months deployment
  • Being recruited for a specific deployment as international delegate – 6 months to a one (1) year contract
  • Being recruited as an Employee working on projects related to International Operations

International Delegates

Our international in-community work is always evolving to address new global challenges. In these roles, delegates work alongside our National Society partners to build local sustainable community capacity. Our current priorities are Mother Newborn-Child Health, Disaster Risk Reduction, Violence Prevention, Shelter, and Organizational Development. We also have ongoing needs for critical support functions such as Logistics and Finance.

 

Each position posting will list specific requirements, but at minimum international aid delegates are required to meet the following:

  • Motivation and strong commitment to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles
  • Able to deploy on missions of a minimum of 1 - 3 months, typically unaccompanied
  • Professional qualification and accreditation in a relevant area of expertise with a minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • Previous international work experience in a developing country
  • Oral and written fluency in English plus at least one additional language
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to drive a standard transmission
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Excellent physical and mental health with the ability to complete a thorough medical screening process
  • Ability to successfully complete a thorough background check
  • Ability to work effectively in high stress, insecure and volatile environments for extended periods
  • Willingness to complete pre-deployment training on an unpaid basis
  • Computer literate
  • Leadership and teamwork skills
  • Ability to mentor/train staff and/or volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working effectively in multicultural environments and teams
  • Strong analytical skills, solution focused, and personal accountability
  • Initiative with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • For most positions applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada with proof of Permanent Residency or Citizenship

Preferred Requirements

  • Fluency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement

Emergency Response Delegates

Are you a skilled professional willing to work anywhere, in challenging circumstances, at a moment’s notice? If so, you may be a candidate to join our roster of vetted and trained personnel who respond to international emergencies (natural disasters, conflict, or smaller-scale emergencies). Delegates receive training on emergency response and practical hands-on experience through a disaster simulation and are deployed when the need arises.

Missions are typically a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks and unaccompanied.
 

General Requirements for Emergency Response Delegates
At minimum, emergency response delegates are required to meet the following requirements:

  • Motivation and strong commitment to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles
  • Able to deploy on short notice on unaccompanied missions of four to six weeks
  • Professional qualification and accreditation in a relevant technical area of expertise with a minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • Previous international work experience
  • Oral and written fluency in English
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to drive a standard transmission
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Excellent physical and mental health with the ability to complete and maintain a thorough medical screening process
  • Ability to successfully complete a thorough background check
  • Ability to work effectively in high stress, insecure and volatile environments for extended periods
  • Willingness to complete pre-deployment training on an unpaid basis
  • Computer literate
  • Leadership and teamwork skills
  • Ability to mentor/train staff and/or volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working effectively in multicultural environments and teams
  • Strong analytical skills, solution focused, and personal accountability

  • Ability to live in basic living conditions
