The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking “F” licensed Drivers with experience driving people with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Transportation Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving clients safely to appointments, cleaning and maintaining vehicles, and promoting Red Cross services and programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving up to 12 clients to designated destinations, ensuring their safe and punctual arrival, sometimes in conjunction with a Passenger Assistant;
  • Following a route and schedule as assigned by the office staff, transports disabled, cognitively impaired and/or physically limited clients from pick-up point to various locations and return;
  • Abiding by all policies, procedures and practices and ensuring that clients do the same to maintain the safety of all concerned while enroute;
  • Ensuring that the exterior and interior of vehicle is clean and presentable to clients and the public;
  • Conducting mandatory MTO regulated circle checks daily on vehicle(s) noting minor and major vehicle defects, topping up vehicle fluids (e.g. gas and windshield wiper fluids) in a timely manner;
  • Observing Universal Precautions and minimizing risk exposure when working with clients and others;
  • Minimizing risk while driving to clients, other drivers and vehicles;
  • Reporting to supervisor, any safety concerns for a client due to his/her condition or any occupational health and safety concerns resulting from driving a particular client;
  • Reporting to supervisor, any concerns regarding the condition of the vehicles which may make them unsafe to drive;
  • Completing any and all documentation and reports as required by legislation or Red Cross policies and practices in a timely and efficient manner:
  • Participating in disaster planning, preparedness and response as required;
  • Integrating volunteer resources within the job’s scope of responsibilities;
  • Following all policies and procedures as required to maintain a healthy and safe working environment;
  • Performing other duties as required.

The minimum qualifications for this position is a high school diploma with a minimum of two years’ driving experience. A class “F” Ontario Driver’s Licence with fewer than three demerit points is required. Previous experience working with seniors and persons with physical and cognitive disabilities would be an asset.
