Injury Prevention SmartStart Facilitator

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Injury Prevention  Facilitator for SmartStart.  Reporting to the Injury Prevention/Respect Education Coordinator, the Facilitator will provide injury prevention education to newcomers through workshop facilitation.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate SmartStart injury prevention workshops to groups of immigrants, refugees, and newcomers to Canada, using PowerPoint, demonstration with props, and verbal instruction.Presentations will be in English, but may use translators;
  • Have access to a vehicle or public transportation to get to the presentation locations;
  • Prepare presentation packages and materials as needed;
  • Attend events and activities as a representative of the SmartStart program;
  • Attend team meetings quarterly;
  • Provide feedback and ongoing content support to the program coordinator.
Qualifications
The incumbent must have the commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and model the core competencies of the CRCS: team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused.
  • Valid First Aid certificate or willingness to complete is required;
  • Completion of successful Child Abuse Registry Checks
Skills & Abilities
  • A valid provincial driver’s licence is an asset;
  • Be able to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract;
  • Experience in public speaking, facilitating workshops, and/or instructing, especially in an EAL format or setting is beneficial;
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity are required;
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.Fluency in a second language is a definite asset;
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are required;
  • Experience working with diverse populations is an asset.

Working Conditions
  • The incumbent may need to stand for2-3 hours when facilitating;
  • The incumbent may need to lift up to 20 kg of program materials.
