First Aid Team Member

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking a First Aid Team Member.  Reporting to the Injury Prevention/Respect Education Community Outreach Coordinator, the First Aid Team Member will provide first aid services to the community.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participates in team planning – including approving requests for service, setting team objectives, fundraising and preparedness activities;
  • Attends meetings and ensures readiness to respond;
  • Attends community events and provides first aid services as required.
The incumbent must have the commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and model the core competencies of the CRCS: team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused.
  • Must be minimum of 16 years of age;
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate or willingness to complete is required;
  • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check;
  • This position requires a satisfactory vulnerable sector check.
Skills & Abilities
  • A valid provincial driver’s licence is an asset;
  • Be able to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract;
  • Strong communication skills in English, including verbal and non-verbal cues, active listening and clearly able to explain self;
  • Customer service skills – provide comfort and care, patience in dealing with upset clients, solution oriented;
  • Attention to detail – accuracy in completing forms, relaying information, completing necessary paperwork;
  • Ability to work well within a team – share information, be helpful, respectful and approachable;
  • Timely – takes initiative and ownership of work;
  • Ability to remain calm during crisis – stress management, responding decisively.

Working Conditions
  • Potential for responding in difficult conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, heat, humidity, vulnerable clients,close proximity to animals).These stressful, rapidly changing environments have the potential to affect the overall well being of the first aid responders on site;
  • The incumbent may need to stand for several hours;
  • The incumbent may need to lift up to 50 kilograms when responding;
  • Ability to work on-traditional hours – evenings & weekends.
