Community Health Navigation Volunteers

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as, the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking volunteers for our new Community Health Navigation initiative in St. John’s, NL. 

This position will assist refugees and newcomers in accessing physicians, health care providers, as well as, a variety of programs and services throughout Eastern Health in Newfoundland and Labrador. 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as health facilities and eastern health navigation guide by accompanying families and individuals to health related appointments.
  • Assist with language translation when appropriate.
  • Participate in health and wellness activities aimed at our new community members.
  • Minimum of 2 years driving experience with a valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of $1,000,000 liability insurance (if using personal vehicle).
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • First Aid Certificate (Training provided).
  • Keen interest in general health.
  • Knowledge of community health and healthcare systems of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Knowledge of refugee experiences and resettlement process.
  • Understanding of relevant national and provincial laws/regulations governing community health, privacy and vulnerable subjects.
  • Previous experience working with new Canadians would be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills in Arabic would be considered an asset.
