The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Event Coordinator Volunteer for the Pink Shirt Day event for the Respect Education program.

Reporting to the Respect Education Provincial Manager this position will manage and oversee all aspects of the upcoming 10th year anniversary of the Pink Shirt Day campaign. This position will primarily be responsible for all logistics and coordination of special events leading up to and including Pink Shirt Week.  The successful volunteer will work closely with the provincial manager in directing important partnership relationships. Based out of the Burnaby office, the position will also assist in other office duties as it relates to the campaign.
Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise frequently with the public; including stakeholders, partners, donors, schools and the provincial government
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the campaign
  • Work with campaign leads, CKNW Orphans Fund, Coast Capital and Pink Shirt Day co-founder Travis Price to create and carry out key events during Pink Shirt Week, and national Bullying Prevention Week.
  • Oversee all logistical components related to the campaign, such as obtaining permits, securing venues, and procuring goods and merchandise.
  • Work with the Provincial Manager and Communications Team on key messaging to disseminate to partners as well as public for social media campaign.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all media inquiries regarding the event
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in coordinating events is a strong asset.
  • Experience working with a diverse population and understanding of cultural issues is an asset.
  • Experience working with the non-profit sector and working with volunteers is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Strong communication skills in English required.
  • High energy personality with exceptional ability to multitask.
  • Excellent phone manner.
  • Basic typing and office organization skills.
  • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check and a satisfactory vulnerable sector check.
Working Conditions
  • This is an ongoing position and a minimum 6-month commitment is desired
  • Successful volunteer will receive training and support to be successful, maintain a safe work environment and provide excellent service to help those in need of this vital service
  • Must be available Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and during occasional evenings and weekends for a minimum of 25 hours per week.
