Equipment Repair Technician

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Equipment Repair Technician Volunteer for the Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP).
Reporting to the Lead Technician, this position will assist with the processing, administration, inventory control and maintenance of health equipment.  This short term loan service offers mobility, independence and safety to seniors and those recovering from illness or surgery in their homes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities will include equipment inspections, equipment repair, maintenance and refurbishment, ensuring proper labelling and safe storage of equipment 
  • Understands and upholds the Red Cross Fundamental Principles and Mission Statement
  • Complies with Red Cross HELP policies and procedures
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in using power tools, working with parts  and operating machinery
  • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian vulnerable sector criminal record check
  • Interpersonal skills with demonstrated  ability to handle interactions with supervisors & colleagues required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an effective team
  • Able to communicate in English required, basic English speaking and writing skills required
  • Reliable and able to effectively execute assigned tasks  
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current WHMS certification or willingness to take training
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Working Conditions
  • This is an ongoing position and a minimum of six months commitment is desired
  • Position can involve long periods or standing and frequent reaching and bending
  • Successful volunteers/candidates will receive training and support in order to be effective, maintain safe work environment and provide excellent service to help those in need of this vital service
  • Our schedule is flexible and are seeking volunteers who can commit to any day or time during the week or weekend.
