The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Applications Assistant Volunteer for the Volunteer and Customer Support Services department.
 
The Volunteer and Customer Support Services department is the volunteer recruiting backbone of the Canadian Red Cross. Our team strives to recruit and orient qualified volunteers to support all Red Cross programs and departments in B.C. and Yukon. We are committed to working with volunteers, staff from other departments, as well as individual and corporate donors, the government, and the private to maintain and expand Red Cross’ day-to-day operations on both the local and international level.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Review, screen, and process volunteer applications in B.C. and Yukon
  • Answer inquiries over the phone as required
  • Inputs and tracks applicant information on Smartsheet
  • Participates in disaster planning, preparation and response, as required
  • Contributes to a healthy and safe working environment
  • Assists with administrative duties and performs other duties as required
 
Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and data-entry skills
  • Must have attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work alone and within a team
  • Strong computer skills with intermediate experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience in Smart Sheet and Raisers Edge an asset
  • An eagerness to learn our database system
  • A genuine desire to work with the Red Cross and within its fundamental principles
  • A positive attitude with openness to new challenges and changes
 
Working Conditions
  • This is an ongoing position and a minimum 6-month commitment is desired
  • Successful volunteers will receive training and support to be successful, maintain a safe work environment and provide excellent service to help those in need of this vital service
  • Must be available Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 am – 4:00 pm for a 4-hour volunteer shift.
