SUMMARY: The Western Canada Youth Advisory Committee functions as a consultative and advisory body to promote the effective engagement of youth. The Committee acts in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and with the governing policies of the Canadian Red Cross. The Youth Advisory Committee strives to model best practices for youth engagement and to maximize youth input and responsibility in its work. We are seeking volunteer representatives from each province/territory as well as an employee representative willing to volunteer their time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Following the Terms of Reference set out for the Youth Advisory Committee, this committee will monitor and evaluate youth engagement, provide input into youth engagement strategies, identify best practices and formally recognize excellence in youth engagement in Western Canada. 
  • Provide updates to the Western Council Volunteer Resource Committees on matters linked to the achievement of the Youth Engagement Framework. 
  • Support or facilitate communication with defined youth networks and provide guidance to the development of Society communication tools and strategies for youth audiences. 
  • Act as a consultative group to programs targeting youth audiences, upon request. 
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director of Volunteer Management, provide leadership to projects that support the implementation and future evolution of the youth engagement framework. 
  • Make presentations to Council and Management teams as requested. 
  • Ensure succession planning for Committee members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a Canadian Red Cross youth volunteer or employee preferably between 15-28 years of age (No older than age 30 by the end of the completed term). 
  • A minimum of one year involvement with Canadian Red Cross. 
  • Possess an understanding of youth initiatives and interests in the Western Canada. 
  • Leadership experience within Canadian Red Cross is a definite asset. 
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities including the ability to solicit and share information with youth and senior organizational leaders. 
  • An interest in strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. 
  • The ability to devote 10-12 hours per month to the work of the Western Youth Advisory Committee and attend monthly teleconference calls – primarily in the evenings.
