Earthquake in Costa Rica

On September 5, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake shook Guanacaste province in Costa Rica.  Homes, bridges and electric systems were damaged and many residents were left without water service.

The Red Cross response to this disaster was immediate.  Costa Rica Red Cross search and rescue teams have been activated and 40 ambulances are currently working in the area. The local Red Cross has a roster of over 5,260 trained volunteers ready to respond.

The Canadian Red Cross is monitoring the situation closely and has pre-positioned stocks and trained delegates ready to be deployed if needed.
