Canadian Red Cross volunteer day at Walmart
Canadian Red Cross volunteers will be mobilizing across Canada on Saturday, August 11 to help Canadians in a new capacity. For the first time, volunteers will be visiting most Walmart stores across the country to greet customers, help bag items at the check out and assist shoppers with their purchases. This is all happening during the annual Canadian Red Cross campaign in Walmart stores to help raise much-needed funds to support emergency response in Canada.
Money raised during the three week campaign, which runs from August 2 to August 26, will help provide urgently needed support to Canadians affected by disaster. This assistance includes important relief items, such as blankets, food, shelter, and the training and equipping of local volunteers.
The Canadian Red Cross makes a difference in the lives of millions of people in Canada through the help of over 25,000 volunteers who give their time and passion to help others every day. Volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross are involved in providing a diverse range of services to help others in vulnerable situations – this includes delivering disaster preparedness and response, educating adults and children about violence and abuse prevention and assisting as front line client service in local offices all across Canada and in our community health programs such as the Health Equipment Loan Programs.
