December 2010 Floods - The Red Cross Continues to Help Those Affected by Flooding in the Gaspésie

The Quebec Division of the Canadian Red Cross is implementing a dedicated assistance program specifically for the people impacted by the December 13 to 15, 2010 floods. This fund was created especially to meet the long-term complementary needs of affected families and to support those whose financial capacity has been lastingly or significantly affected by the disaster.

To date, more than thirty impacted families have indicated to the Red Cross that they need assistance. The program works as a complement to existing government programs that provide assistance for the repair, relocation, reconstruction, rehabilitation or purchase of primary residences or to top up home insurance coverage when costs exceed the maximum amount awarded for repairs.

The fund, established thanks to the public's generosity, contains over $150,000. The money comes from the sale of tickets to a benefit performance during last year’s Festival d'été de Québec as well as from a $75,000 donation from the City of Quebec. Area representatives and partners are also providing support for the implementation of the assistance program to help families impacted by the disaster.

Families who wish to find out if they are eligible for the program are invited to contact the Gaspé Team at: 418 269-7911.
