Red Cross announced as associate member of International Life Saving Federation

The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce  their application as an Associate Member to the Board of Directors of the International Life Saving Federation was approved and fully supported by the Board of the Royal Lifesaving Society of Canada (RLSC). The Canadian Red Cross and RLSC are currently collaborating on a national water safety awareness campaign launching this summer – the Open Water Wisdom Campaign – which has a financial contribution from the Public Health Agency of Canada.

The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) is a world authority on drowning prevention, lifesaving, and lifesaving sport. ILS leads, supports, and collaborates with national and international organizations engaged in drowning prevention, water safety, water rescue, lifesaving, lifeguarding, and lifesaving sport.

The Canadian Red Cross welcomes the additional opportunity to participate in the global effort to reduce injury and death, in, on and around the water with the ILS. As an Associate Member, they will participate in the General Assembly and join in the work to reduce water-related fatalities around the world.

The Canadian Red Cross is a national leader in drowning research, examining the annual data as well as the long-term trends. They offer a full spectrum of swimming and water safety training programs, including Red Cross Lifeguard, which was introduced in 2009.
