HELP Technician

Do you enjoy:

  • Repairing and adjusting equipment?
  • Using your mechanical knowledge and skills?
  • Providing a tangible service to the community?

Volunteer with our Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) in various communities in B.C. and Alberta.

HELP is a volunteer-operated, community-based program that lends health equipment such as wheelchairs and bathing aids to people of all ages who are recovering from surgery, illness or injury. Our service provides solutions to those who are confronted with a sudden injury, declining health or short term disability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment for damage and perform routine maintenance
  • Replace broken or worn-out parts as needed
  • Clean and disinfect returned equipment, using an automated washer in some locations
  • Ensure equipment is appropriately labelled and numbered
  • Ensure equipment is stored safely in warehouse

Qualifications

  • You have mechanical aptitude and enjoy problem solving
  • You are fluent in spoken and written English
  • You enjoy working as part of a team with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • You are willing to submit to a criminal record check
  • You are physically able to lift and carry wheelchairs, walkers, bath seats and other health equipment

Other

  • Training is provided
  • Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week (3-4 hours)
  • In some locations, experience with computers is required.
