A team approach to bully prevention in Saskatchewan
The Canadian Red Cross works with the Prairie South School Division in bully prevention. School community teams, consisting of two youth, two staff and two adults from the school community council are trained to deliver Red Cross bully prevention education to their peers in primary, elementary and middle years classrooms. The Prairie South School Division covers much of south-central Saskatchewan.
“After they are trained, participants have a good understanding of issues related to bullying and how to address it in their community,” says Jeff Finell, superintendent of school services with Prairie South School Division. “It’s wonderful to witness the transformation that occurs within these individuals and their communities as they participate in this collaborative process.”
This year the Canadian Red Cross violence and abuse prevention program is marking its 25th anniversary. Please visit www.redcross.ca/respected for more information.
