Walmart fundraising campaign for Canadian Red Cross breaks $1 million mark
Walmart Canada’s in-store campaign in support of Canadian Red Cross disaster response is on-track to break previous records after just 13 days. As we enter hurricane season on the heels of summer fires in British Columbia and spring flooding in Manitoba, Canadians have dug deep to support the Red Cross.
The campaign launched on August 5 and Walmart customers have already contributed an amazing $1,062,913 at check-outs across the country. Walmart Canada will generously contribute matching funds up to $2,000 per store, bringing the current amount raised to $1,653,546.
“Canadians have demonstrated their generosity again,” says Conrad Sauvé, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Red Cross. “This is truly a collaboration between Walmart, its associates, and the caring customers who add a Red Cross donation to their purchase. This campaign proves that even small donations can add up in a hurry.”
The Walmart campaign runs until August 31 and has a goal of $2.1 million. Funds raised in each community will be put to work in that same community to support disaster preparedness and response activities. Since 2003, Walmart Canada has raised and donated nearly $7 million to support the Canadian Red Cross.
