Microsoft Canada surpasses $50 million mark with recent donation

Mississauga, ON – May 4, 2009 – The Canadian Red Cross is the recipient of Microsoft Canada’s largest ever single software donation. Microsoft Canada will provide the Canadian Red Cross with more than $3 million in software and licensing to help them focus on disaster relief efforts and humanitarian aid in Canada and around the world. The donation also brings Microsoft Canada’s total donations to nonprofits and charities across Canada to more than $50 million since 2004.

Microsoft Canada’s donation includes business software (Windows Vista®, Microsoft® Office 2007, and SharePoint®) as well as developer tools such as Visual Studio®, which will help significantly improve internal communications and business services by making them more interactive for Canadian Red Cross employees and partners.

In total, two thousand Canadian Red Cross computers and 15 servers will be updated. The donation will free up much needed resources for the Canadian Red Cross to focus on disaster management, first aid, water safety, conflict, fund development, and health and injury prevention.
