Wal-Mart campaign racing to the finish line

Walmart August 27
As of August 27, 2008
Wal-Mart Canada’s in-store campaign in support of Canadian Red Cross is nearing the finish line on pace to break records.

Since the campaign kick-off on Aug. 7, Wal-Mart customers have been contributing generously at checkouts across the country. Taking into account that each Wal-Mart store will provide matching funds of up to $2,000 at the end of the campaign on Aug. 31, the campaign has already surpassed $1.4 million, and is on track to meet the goal of $1.7 million.

“We thank Canadians for their generosity,” says Tim Hoswitchka, director of corporate relations at Canadian Red Cross. “Each dollar donated ads up to increased disaster response capacity in communities across Canada. This is truly a joint venture between Wal-Mart, its associates, and the caring customers who add a donation to their purchase.”

Funds raised will stay in each community to support disaster preparedness and response activities.
