“These role models do more than show us the way,” said the Governor General. “They push us to go further than they themselves have gone.” A professor of law at McGill University since 1976, de Mestral was honoured by Canadian Red Cross in 2004 for his work in International Humanitarian Law. He says of the Order of Canada: “My citation mentions my contributions to international and constitutional law, but it also mentions my work for the Red Cross. I am very proud of my years of service to the Red Cross, indeed, I am sure the Red Cross gave me more than I gave in return, and I feel certain that this honour really goes to the Canadian Red Cross Society and all those who serve it, more than it does to me personally.” The Canadian Red Cross congratulates Armand de Mestral on receiving this honour.
