Canadian Red Cross and University of Ottawa International Humanitarian Law Summer Course

The Canadian Red Cross is hosting the seventh edition of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Summer Course in Ottawa from June 2nd to 7th 2013. The course is part of a joint initiative between the University of Ottawa, the Human Rights Research and Education Centre, and the Canadian Red Cross.

The complexities of modern day conflicts combined with the availability of information and media interest has resulted in a higher profile for humanitarian issues. Our expert speakers will unpack these issues by analyzing the ever developing set of humanitarian legal rules and norms in areas such as the criminal repression of war crimes, means and methods of warfare, combatant status, and the specific protection of women and children.

Students will actively participate in lectures and discussions. In addition, all those in attendance will benefit from networking with experts as well as people active in the humanitarian field.

For detailed information on the course, program and organizing partners please visit our web site. The deadline for sending in your application is March 15, 2013. Please complete the application form and send it to dih-ihl@uottawa.ca.
