Hbc Offers Assistance to Western Canadians Dealing with Extreme Weather with Special ‘Donate Your Hbc Rewards Points’ Program
TORONTO, January 19th, 2007- Hudson’s Bay Company (Hbc) is appealing to customers to donate their Hbc Rewards Points to support the Canadian Red Cross’ Western Canada Severe Weather Appeal. The program was established to help the various communities across British Columbia that have been severely impacted by extreme weather conditions. In addition to the support offered to the Canadian Red Cross’ emergency relief effort, Hbc has also committed $20,000 to the Vancouver Parks Board to repair damage to Stanley Park.
Since November 15th, 2006, many Canadians in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland region have been harshly affected by relentless weather conditions, including heavy rainfalls and high winds resulting in flooding and power outages. Working in partnership with local governments, Emergency Social Services and corporate partners, Red Cross has helped provide clothing, bottled water, food, personal needs, cots, blankets and accommodation to British Columbians in need. Trained personnel havebeen working withcommunities to helpthose affected toaccess local resources. Red Cross will continue to assist where needed as long as this pattern of severe and atypical weather continues. The Donate Your Hbc Rewards Points program provides an opportunity to Canadians to help each other in the wake of natural disasters.
“Like many Canadians, we at Hbc are overwhelmed by the devastation and realize the need for relief across communities affected in British Columbia,” said Diane Gordon, Director, Hbc Community Investment. “The Donate Your Hbc Rewards Points program is a part of Hbc’s long and proud tradition of enabling our customers to help contribute to the Canadian Red Cross’ relief efforts and support communities in need”.
Effective Friday, January 19th until Friday, February 16th, the Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters customers across British Columbia can donate their Hbc Reward Points in support of the Canadian Red Cross’ Western Canada Severe Weather Appeal. Funds raised through the transfer of Hbc points will allow Red Cross to continue to assist those impacted by this weather. Any funds raised in excess of needs during the current and ongoing response will be held in the Western Canada Severe Weather fund for use in future weather-related disaster responses in Western Canada.
“It is thanks to terrific corporate partners like Hbc that Red Cross is able to quickly translate care and concern into meaningful help for those affected by recent and ongoing severe weather,” said Kimberley Nemrava, Director of Canadian Red Cross in the coastal region (Vancouver Island). “Red Cross sends its thanks to Hbc customers for their generosity in donating Hbc points to help the people of British Columbia recover from the weather that has impacted the province so dramatically this winter.”
