Vehicle Emergency Kit

 


Always -carry a seasonal Vehicle Emergency Kit

Beginning of each Season -replace seasonal items and check to ensure that items are in good working order (i.e. flashlight)

Full Gas Tank -fill up at each opportunity

Vehicle Maintainance -check the tires and underneath the vehicle to see that nothing is leaking or hanging down, check fluids


Vehicle Emergency Kit

Keep the following items stored in water proof containers in your vehicle
Ensure good working order of all equipment and tools and change items according to the season or your travel destination

  • battery powered radio, flashlight and extra batteries (do not store batteries in appliances)
  • blanket/sleeping bag, clothing and footwear appropriate for the season
  • booster cables
  • bottled water and non-perishable high energy foods (nuts, chocolate bars)
  • candles, waterproof matches and tin to put candle in (ensure you open a window slightly)
  • compass
  • duct tape
  • fan belt
  • fire extinguisher - ABC Type
  • first aid kit and manual
  • flares
  • fuses
  • ice scraper and brush
  • methyl hydrate for fuel line and windshield de-icing
  • radiator hose
  • road maps
  • safety triangles
  • shovel
  • spare tire, jack, pump, repair kit (sealant)
  • screw drivers, wrench, hose clamp etc.
  • tow chain
  • traction mats (or kitty litter or gravel)
  • white cloth to tie the door handle to signal distress
