STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
- Ability and agreement to adhere to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Oral and written fluency in English
- Previous international work experience in a developing country
- Minimum 2-3 years work experience in a relevant field
- Valid driver’s license with ability to drive a standard transmission
- Valid First Aid certification
- Excellent physical and mental health with the ability to complete a thorough medical screening process
- Ability to successfully complete a thorough background / security check
- Computer literate with demonstrated ability in MS Office products, Lotus, etc.
In addition, all candidates must demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
- Ability to work effectively in multi cultural environments
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to work effectively in high stress, insecure and volatile environments for extended periods
- Ability to adapt to constantly changing environments
- Proven leadership skills with a strong ability to build and manage effective teams
- A strong sense of initiative with excellent problem solving and decision making skills
Preferred Requirements
- 2-3 years international experience working for a humanitarian aid organization in a developing country
- Fluency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin
- Previous experience working or volunteering with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement
- Meet the requirements of the profiles of an ICRC or Federation delegate
- Specialty in one of the core strategic areas of the Canadian Red Cross: Health, Organizational Development, Disaster Risk Reduction, Shelter
ICRC Requirements
- University degree with a minimum of 3 to 5 years relevant work experience
- Oral and written fluency in English, French and preferably a 3rd language such as Spanish, Arabic, Russian, or Pashto
- Ability to accept 12 month missions on an unaccompanied basis
- Ability to work in war zones and conflict environments
Due to the physical and psychological demands and difficult living conditions of overseas assignments, all applicants invited to a CRC training or being considered for an overseas mission must first complete a mandatory medical screening process prior to being confirmed. This is done in order to protect the health and well-being of all delegates. Delegates who have certain medical conditions, require ongoing medical treatments, or have physical limitations may not be suitable candidates for every CRC mission. |
