Haiti

Haiti, located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, is a country that faces economic, social and environmental challenges. Due to years of civil unrest, violence and high unemployment rates, the country is both economically and socially vulnerable and is further challenged by powerful storms and hurricanes that sweep through the country each year.

Guyana

The Canadian Red Cross began working with the Guyana Red Cross in 2007 to design and implement the “Be Safe!” child personal safety program in Guyana. “Be Safe” launched in October, 2008 and is based on the Canadian Red Cross RespectED: violence and abuse prevention program, in which the Canadian Red Cross has 25 years of experience in preventing violence against children. Nicaragua

Nicaragua, located in Central America, has faced challenges due to political instability, civil war and crippling poverty. It is also threatened each year with natural disasters such as volcanoes, landslides and hurricanes. More»

Honduras

Honduras has experienced improvements to health care services over the past few decades but continues to face challenges, especially in rural areas. Many illnesses and premature deaths are a result of malnutrition, acute respiratory diseases and infectious diseases such as malaria, dengue and HIV/AIDS. Of particular concern is mother and child health in rural communities.  More»
