From Halifax to Africa

In a span of three weeks, high school students in Halifax, Nova Scotia contributed their snack money and collected donations in their community to raise nearly $2,200 - all of it will support the Canadian Red Cross Malaria Bites campaign.

Following presentations by Red Cross volunteers during 2009’s March is Red Cross Month, social studies and global studies classes at Sir John A. Macdonald High School challenged one another to raise money to send life-saving mosquito nets to Africa.

Thanks to their generosity, they were able to raise enough to send 311 nets – that’s over 100 nets for each week that they fundraised. The Canadian Red Cross is grateful to Sir John A. Macdonald High School for its generosity and involvement in the fight against malaria.
