Student Nutrition Program

In partnership with schools, the community, Student Nutrition Ontario and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Red Cross supports school-based student nutrition programs in participating schools.  These programs boost the physical, social and academic development of students by providing universal and equal access to nutritious food that adheres to the Nutrition Guidelines set out by the Ministry. Programming runs 2-5 days per week and can include breakfasts (3 food groups) or snacks (2 food groups).

Each school year, Timmins and District Red Cross supports over 85 schools throughout Northeastern Ontario, from Temiskaming Shores and Kirkland Lake areas, to Matheson, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane to Hearst and Constance Lake, to Timmins & surrounding areas, and up to the James Bay Coast, reaching close to 16,000 students and serving over 1.5 million snacks and breakfasts annually.  We ensure that all students, regardless of social or financials situations, have access to the program, in order to be well-nourished and ready to learn.
