Financial Housing Assistance – Booking Your Appointment

ATTENTION: Permanent residents of the Wood Buffalo region who were affected by the wildfires in May.

Financial assistance is available for people who choose to return to the Fort McMurray area, as well as for those who choose not to return. Red Cross financial housing assistance includes help with rent or mortgage payments, as well as the replacement of furniture, appliances and household goods. Assistance will be based upon unmet needs identified during the eligibility assessment.

Appointments can be booked through our online booking system below, or by calling 1-888-553-5505 and asking for a housing assistance phone appointment.

To book your appointment, all applicants must be:

  • A registered evacuee with the Canadian Red Cross for the 2016 Alberta mandatory wildfire evacuation.
  • A permanent resident within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo at the time of the evacuation.
  • At least 18 years old. (Only one adult can apply per household.)
  • Uninsured or without enough insurance coverage for temporary housing needs.

Applicants must also be able to provide a scan, photocopy or picture of the following documents:

  • personal identification;
  • rental, lease, or mortgage agreement;
  • documentation showing permanent residency in the Wood Buffalo region at the time of the evacuation; and,
  • documentation of any home/rental insurance you may have had at the time of the fire.

A Red Cross case worker will call you at the scheduled date and time of your appointment once you book online or by phone. The Canadian Red Cross is committed to helping you throughout your recovery from the fires. Please reach out to us in the weeks, months or years ahead should you require assistance.
