Support for Impacted Residents

The Canadian Red Cross is committed to working with those impacted by the 2016 Alberta fires for the months and years that are needed to rebuild. Moving forward, the Red Cross continues to meet with families and individuals whose homes were severely damaged or destroyed to see how they may need assistance along their road to recovery. Through confidential one-on-one assessments, the Red Cross supports impacted families and individuals with unmet needs through financial assistance and information and referrals to existing partners.

Red Cross can provide assistance to owners of destroyed or severely damaged homes for costs associated with items such as:

  • Rebuild and repair
  • Down payments
  • Household utility connections
  • Rental and mortgage support
  • Professional reports and surveys
  • Mental health and wellbeing supports
  • Financial and legal advice

The Canadian Red Cross is still working virtually – online and by phone - with residents impacted by the Alberta fires of 2016.
If you were affected by recent flooding in Fort McMurray and the surrounding area in 2020, please call Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT.  More flooding information is available on our Fort McMurray and Area Floods page.
Red Cross assistance will not duplicate existing support either at the provincial or municipal levels, or through insurance.
