Thanks to the generous outpouring of support from Canadians, the Canadian Red Cross will provide direct financial assistance to thousands of households affected by unprecedented flooding across Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.

If the floods impacted your household, you might be eligible for the following assistance:

  1. Direct financial help of $600

Eligible registered households will receive $600 in direct financial assistance
The $600 provided will be one single amount for the entire household, not $600 for each individual member in the affected household.

    Criteria:
    • Be a homeowner or tenant in Quebec, Ontario or British Columbia whose primary residence has experienced water damage as a result of flooding between mid-April to mid-May 2017.

How to request direct financial help

In order to get the financial help, you have to register with the Red Cross.
The information provided for registration will allow us to verify your identity and ensure that your primary residence (rented or owned) is located in a flooded area.

    • Please choose a person to represent everyone living at the same address.
    • Register by calling 1-800-863-6582.
    • In order to speed up the process, please provide us your email address in your registration. Email is the most effective way to send the electronic bank transfer.
    • Your registration must be completed and validated before receiving your electronic bank transfer.
    • If you do not provide an email address when you register, a representative will call you to explain how to get your financial assistance.
  2. Additional financial assistance

The Red Cross will be assessing further household needs and providing additional financial assistance to those who qualify.

This additional financial assistance will help individuals and families as they recover from the floods and can be used to cover costs that aren’t covered by other funding sources including reconstruction and relocation, health needs, transportation needs, children’s needs, occupational needs and so on.

    Criteria:

    1. Be the owner or lessee of a principal residence that has suffered major damages due to the flooding in Ontario, Quebec or British Columbia.
    2. The additional financial assistance is being provided based on need, not loss. This means, each and every registered household will be assessed on a case by case basis through speaking with a Red Cross representative in order to determine if they qualify for this additional assistance.

How to request additional financial assistance

    • For your household to be considered eligible to receive this second round of financial assistance, you must already be registered with the Red Cross, and must already be validated as a flood-impacted household.
    • If your household is already registered in Québec, please call 1-800-863-6582 to book an appointment for a personal assessment.
    • If your household is already registered in Ontario or in British Columbia, a member of the Red Cross team will be in touch.
    • If your household is not registered with the Red Cross, you can still register by calling 1-800-863-6582.
  3. Find Red Cross in your region

If you need immediate assistance, Red Cross volunteers are meeting flood-affected residents in Quebec and Ontario and British Columbia.
